Change: Ecclesiastes 3:14

I hope that you are all having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I am very blessed to have a lot of family and friends to spend the day with us today. Thank you for joining us for another challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ.

This week the sweet and talented Kristine chose the verse and the challenge. The verse she chose comes from the book of  Ecclesiastes 3:14 .

"I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him."
Everything God does is forever - for me that means His many promises to me. I could write a very long book filled with all the wonderful messages and gifts He has given me but for today I will share one quick story.
One of our children is mentally handicapped. When we adopted her as a 3 month old we did not know of this handicap and I was blind (or in denial) to it for a couple of years. When I finally took her to a neurologist I was told that her malnutrition as an infant in Korea had caused brain damage and that we would not know the extent of that until she was older. It was an incredible blow to me. That night while my husband was taking night college classes and I was home with our 4 children I broke down at the foot of her crib. I cried and ranted and raved at God telling him this was not what I wanted and that I could not handle taking care of a child with special needs! After a while I calmed down and on my knees accepted God's wish for me and us and asked (told) Him that I could NOT do it alone and that He better not ever leave me. The peace that I felt at that moment is indescribable! Katie is now 34 years old and He has never left either one of us.

His promise was and is forever!

Kristine has a sketch challenge for us. That challenge is to follow the sketch to a "T" - not adding anything to it, or taking anything away from it.

Our sponsor this week is Sweet and Sassy Stamps and the winner can select 3 digitals of their choice. Be sure to check them out, they have a wonderful selection!

Blue Birthday Flowers

To see the Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge post please scroll down.

Some colors photograph differently then they look IRL. This is really a very light blue. Very soft and pretty. I colored the flowers first with Copics and cut them out. Then I found the paper to match knowing that I wanted all blues to go for the MFP challenge to use a monochromatic look with the focal image popped up. It took me forever to find the blues to go together. It is a good thing that I have collected quite a few things in my years of stampin mania!

I actually took a close up to show how I did the ribbon treatment and truly the blues match much better than what it shows in this shot!

The sketch is from Card Positioning System - it was fun to do. I really like sketch challenges or should I say sketch help!

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment!

Hippie Birthday

To see the Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge post please scroll down.
I may not have been a "hippie" but I certainly did grow up during that era and most of my family and friends did too. So this fun stamp set from GinaK called So Groovy was just begging to be inked up! It also called for bright colors.

This card was rather fun to make. A different sketch, thanks to Card Patterns, is always fun to play around with. I used a cuttlebug folder for the yellow panel and several different sizes of circle Nesties for the main images. The colors in the DP were perfect for this. I paper pieced the television. Added a few brads for the dials on the tv. (yes I said dials!) A button and a bow just finished it off.

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment!

Cupcake: Proverbs 10:20-21

Happy Sunday dear friends. I hope you had a good week. I am so glad that you could join us for another challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ.

This week  it is Grace who chose the verse for the challenge. The verse she chose comes from the book of  Proverbs 10:20-21.

"The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver, the heart of the wicked is worth little. The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of understanding."
Those of you who follow my blog know that we have been blessed with 8 wonderful children (now adults) and that I am a grade school teacher in a Catholic School. One of the phrases that I used then and still use today with the little ones (some big ones too!) "Use your nice words." Do we use our lips to praise others and especially to praise God? Tonight at Mass I had the readings. Before I head up to the podium I always say a silent prayer that He might use my lips and my voice to proclaim His words. I also say that prayer when one of our adult children come over to "talk" to us about something important, asking that we (my DH and I) use words that He wants us to use.

I think that is why this challenge site is so important to me - we try to use our craft to proclaim a few of His words every week. Thank you for thinking it is important to you too.

Create a card/ project that encourages and use a touch of silver.

For this fun girly card I chose to use two stamp sets from our sponsor this week MFT. I wanted to try the Sketches by Carly for the first time, it really was fun.

Our sponsor this week is My Favorite Things with a $25 gift certificate to their store!

Hoppin Birthday

This was a really fun card to make. With 7 grandsons I know that this card will be used. It doesn't even have to be for a kid - but for a kid at heart!

I colored the image from "Cute as a bug" with my Copics, sponged around it with some soft blue and popped it up with the green. The cupcake was from one of Melanie's sets  called Square Pegs.

Cody's Birthday

To see the Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge post please scroll down.
Right now I am trying to get ahead a little on my grand-children's birthday cards. Here is one of them. Yup it is for the one named Cody. He is all boy and loves  anything that can be done outside. He also has very blonde hair (looks just like his handsome father did) so I hope this qualifies for MFP challenge.

This was really not a difficult card. The most difficult thing is trying to NOT use bling and flowers and frills. He will be 7 and frills are a definite no-no! I paper pieced his outfit. I used the cuttlebug folder first one way then the other way to gave it a little more character. I added the brads - these do NOT qualify as bling do they?

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment!

Star Quality: Psalm 121: 2-4

Sunday again - already?! Honestly these weeks go quickly! I am so glad that you could join us for another challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ.

This week  Chris chose the verse for the challenge. The verse she chose comes from the book of Psalm 121:2-4.
"My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip” he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep."
Not slumber or sleep! Yikes - I need my 7 hours! While reflecting on this I couldn't help but think about when we brought our first child home. He was about 3 months old and the most precious gift from God ever! To say I hovered would probably be an understatement! The love that I felt was so overwhelming and all encompassing that I did not want to sleep, I wanted to check on him constantly. (these were the days BEFORE baby monitors) And when he started to crawl and walk I made sure his feet did not slip and that he would not get hurt in any way. This is how our Lord watches over us!

As time passed and we were blessed with 7 more wonderful gifts I was less panicky about watching every minute. I love them the same but the boo boos happened and the hurts could not all be prevented. Even now that they are adults with children of their own, I still would like to keep them from pain and hardship but alas I cannot. Our Father can and does! He does not slumber or sleep - so that we can!

Create a card or project with a tea or coffee cup or pot-this can be the designer paper, the image, or embellishment.

I wanted to use one of the stamp sets that I got from TCM - that was the star and the sentiment. I then wanted to include it with a cup. I have this image from GKD called Mugs and Kisses and thought the star would be perfect on it. I paper pieced the up and used a lot of embossing because I also wanted to use it for the Lily Pad challenge.

Our sponsor this week is The Craft's Meow with this wonderful stamp set!

CSS Sketch Blog hop - 5/13/2011

It is another StampTV blog hop and this time it is a sketch challenge - thanks to Melissa Cash for the great sketch! Circle cards are not usually my favorite but I really had fun with these!  You should have arrived from Sharri Seffens blog and I am quite certain that she wowed you!

Here is my first card and I used some of my favorite floral sets called Spring Florals.  The designer paper was a gift and it is called Juliane by K & Company. I colored the flowers using my Copics and did the flowers twice so I could pop them up. The butterfly is from a MS punch and I used some pearl ex on it to make it shine and shimmer just like a butterfly should. The bow was with some seam binding ribbon and the half pearls just gave the card a little more character.

My second card is very different from the first, in fact it was the first card I made. I used the fun stamp set called Gleefully Yours. I stamped the musical score directly onto the GKD Pure Luxury White with black ink. I then used Versamark on the mike and used some lavender chalk to highlight the "sound". I didn't like how the post for the microphone looked so I stamped and embossed and cut out a new one then slightly popped it up. A tiny bit of ribbon, some bling on the notes and ribbon and a charm to finish it off.

Your next stop is bound to be impressive so hop over to visit Melissa Shultz and you can ooh and ahh her creation.  If you want to start at the beginning  or get lost along the way, just jump directly to the links for all of the wonderful creations on StampTV.

Make sure to leave a comment as you hop along because on Tuesday morning (May 17th), we will randomly choose one of the comments from all the blogs who will get a stamp set of their choice valued up to $24.95!

As always, your comments really do mean a lot to me. Thank you for leaving them.

Birthday Boat

I made this for my DH - his birthday is next week. One of our favorite activities is to spend about an hour each day (weather permitting) on our boat slowly cruising around the lake to catch up on our day. It is "our time" and we treasure it.

The image is from GKD. I colored them with my wonderful Copics. I used some Sakura pens to color the dragonfly and give it some shimmer. Can't really bling up a man's card too much. :-) The sketch is from JUGS.

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment!

Butterfly Beauty: Ecclesiastes 3:11

Happy Mother's Day on this wonderful Sunday. I am so glad that you could join us for another challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ.

This week  Sabrina chose the verse for this week's challenge. The verse she chose is Ecclesiastes 3:11 .
"He has made everything appropriate to its time, and has put the timeless into their hearts, without men's ever discovering, from beginning to end, the work which God has done." NAB - St. Joseph Ed.
I just had to sit down to read this entire chapter. Really good! It starts off with there is a time for everything - this was made into a song by the Byrds called, "Turn! Turn! Turn!" perhaps some of you remember it. Then it talks about everyday life. Going to work and enjoying the results of that work. How wonderful then to appreciate the beauty of God's work! The beauty of the butterfly and the flowers in a meadow. The love of a child and that love for a child. The simple beauty of enjoying the moment.

I think we often look at the result of work as just being a paycheck and then paying the bills. A lot of us hope for a little extra to be able to "purchase" some fun and beauty in our lives. Perhaps we overlook the rewards that are around us every minute of every day; we just have to recognize it and acknowledge that all are gifts from God.

The challenge this week is to make a card and put all things "beautiful" on it (flowers, pearls, bling, butterflies, birds, lace, etc.)

I made this card as soon as I received my order from TCM! I just had to make this card. I did struggle with it though. You see all those butterflies? Well there was just 1 until my finger got some ink on it and I smeared it in 2 different places. I could not start over so - - 2 more butterflies! I colored the flowers in the meadow with pen nubs and Distress inks. I just love that technique! I stamped the wings on the little girl on some vellum and popped it up and added bling here and there and everywhere. The sentiment is from a set that I purchased at Simon Says Stamp called Good News which has some great Christian Symbols and Sentiments on it.

Our sponsor this week is Simon Says Stamp with this wonderful stamp set, gee I think I should enter this challenge!

Mom

This one is for my mom. Being Dutch we all love tulips so she had to have a card with a tulip. I made this for the Our Daily Bread Designs sketch challenge.

The image in the circle is one of the adorable Tildy images. I only have a few but I like using them, they are fun to color and/or paper piece. I did both with her. It is difficult to tell but the tulip was stamped and colored twice, the second one was popped up. The sentiment is from an old SU stamp set.

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment! That is about it for Mother's Day cards for me this year. On to other events.

Mother's Day Daughter

I have been blessed with some wonderful mothers in my life; 2 daughters in law, a daughter, the mother of one of my sweet grandsons, my amazing mother-in-law and my dear mother. So I have been busy making cards for each one of them.

The image in the circle was easy, with nice results. I colored on the stamp with some SU markers then stamped it. I followed the sketch from Card Patterns - it was a tough sketch for me, and I am not sure if I like it, I think it is the ribbon that I do not like, oh well. No time to make another one right now. Must get these in the mail.

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment! I may not have another card tomorrow, depends on how much I get done after work today.

Mother's Day Card

I have been blessed with some wonderful mothers in my life; 2 daughters in law, a daughter, the mother of one of my sweet grandsons, my amazing mother-in-law and my dear mother. So I have been busy making cards for each one of them.

This qualifies as an easy card for me. The stamps are new from GKD -love them. I stamped the texture stamp with some Vivid Taupe and then embossed the flower on it with white. The tags were cut with Spellbinder dies and a couple of white brads on them Added the ribbon for softness. That's it.

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment! Come back tomorrow for another Mother's Day card.

Mothers Day for DIL

To see the Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge post please scroll down.
I have been blessed with some wonderful mothers in my life; 2 daughters in law, a daughter, the mother of one of my sweet grandsons, my amazing mother-in-law and my dear mother. So I have been busy making cards for each one of them. Yesterday's post was my first card and here is my second. This one I followed the sketch from The Sweet Shop.

I tried a fun technique with this card. I colored the chunky (solid) stamps then spritzed some water on the stamps before stamping on GKD Pure Luxury white cs. Such fun and a different look. I also used some colors not usually associated with Mother's Day cards, just for a change. I used an Impressibility for the green panel.

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment! Come back tomorrow for another Mother's Day card!

Praise God - Romans 8:28

Another Sunday and so glad that you could join us for another challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ.

This card was made without me reading the full directions! The challenge was to not use designer paper and my brain just thought of background. Silly me! But I liked the card so I decided to post it anyway and then make a second card that DOES follow the directions!

I made this card using ODBD stamps and stamped the tulips right on the DP. I stamped it several times and then popped up a few of the petals. I used two different Cuttlebug folders on the ivory paper. I loved that I had ribbon to match too!

Challenges:
Our Daily Bread Designs: Sketch
Fabulous Friday - Stripes and polka dots
Simon Says Stamps: Anything Goes

And then I made this one to correct my error!

This card was quickly tossed together to show that I do know how to make a card without DP. LOL! I used another Cuttlebug folder to create the background using some of my distress inks, Bundles Sage and Victorian Velvet. I used the emboss resist technique for the flower image from ODBD. The sentiment was from an old stamps set from Sweet and Sassy Stamps. I threw a few tiny beads on the center of the flower. I know that it looks like the ink colors are different on the two white sections but it was the late afternoon light. I threw a hat pin on it for a fun addition.

Challenges:
Jugs: Emboss Resist
2 Sisters - For A Mom
Mark's Finest Papers: Use a hatpin
Stamp, Scrap and Doodle - Mothers Day Project
Fairy Tale -Challenge #14: Mother's Day
Craft Us Crazy - Mother's Day and/or flowers
Card Cupids - Mothers Day
I Did It Creations - Mothers Day

This week  MariLynn chose the verse for this week's challenge. The verse she chose is Romans 8:28.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Right now one of our daughters is going through a difficult time and has some changes coming in her life. I know that she is totally in God's hands and that things will turn out okay for her. She is very much loved and very special to our Father! She is mentally challenged and does have total trust that everything will be okay. She trusts us and the people that are involved in her life totally. That is the trust that  we all must strive for.

The challenge this week is to use no designer paper, paper must start as a solid color.

Our sponsor this week is Clear Dollar Stamps with a cling stamp set.

Be sure to stop by my SSIC design sisters to see what they have to share this week:
